Why is it so hard to build a diverse team of software engineers?

Is it due to:

  • The talent pool just isn't there?
  • As a recruiter you're not trying hard enough?
  • Your personal network doesn't have a ton of developers of color in it?

We believe it's a combination of the things above (except for the trying hard enough part, we know you're a hard worker :)). The real question that needs to be answered is how do we make it easier to find and highlight developers of color? How do we as a collective get rid of the guilt of knowing that the developers are out there, but just seem so far out of reach?

Let's dream for a little bit. Imagine you have a few open software engineering spots on your team. The candidates are flowing in like water and you're noticing that it's a nice diverse bunch of people applying. They know your company is a great place to work because they feel comfortable due to the diverse and inclusive team.

That's a good feeling isn't it?

Ok, time to wake up. You're not at the level of recruiting utopia just yet, but there is a way you can take the first step.

That first step starts with you filling out the form below and joining us on bridging the gap between companies seeking out diverse talent and diverse talent.
